Gluco-amylase and starch
One of the enzymes that help digest starch is gluco-amylase. Starch is a type of sugar or carbohydrate. Usually, carbohydrates are converted into glucose in the body. Glucose plays an important role in supplying energy to the body. Gluco-amylase is one of the enzymes in the body that enable the digestion of carbohydrates. When we analyse starch, we can see that it is a long chain of glucose molecules attached to each other. This is also called a polymer. In addition to glucose, several other enzymes are needed in the body to digest starch.
If the body lacks gluco-amylase, it is not possible to break down the long chains of glucose molecules properly. This causes the nutrients to end up in the large intestine. Here, fermentation takes place which can cause unpleasant symptoms. Intoleran has developed a product which may be able to provide support. The product contains gluco-amylase.
