Lactase 2500 is a small, easy-to-swallow tablet with a lower dosage (2500 FCC) of the Lactase enzyme. Due to the lower dosage, this product is ideal for mild lactose intolerance and for digesting smaller amounts of lactose.* The small tablet is easy to swallow, making it highly suitable for children aged 2 and up. Lactase 2500 comes with a convenient, portable dispenser.
Lactose (milk sugar)
Lactose is one of the FODMAPs; fermentable carbohydrates (sugars). Lactose, also known as “milk sugar,” is primarily found in milk and other dairy products such as cream, custard, quark, mascarpone, fresh (cream) cheese, biscuits and cakes. Additionally, lactose can also be present in processed meats, chips, sweets, soft drinks, breakfast cereals and certain medications and dietary supplements. Therefore, it is always important to read labels carefully. Lactose can be listed under various names, such as milk powder, whey, milk sugar and milk solids.
Digestion of lactose in the body
The digestive enzyme Lactase is responsible for the digestion of lactose. In the intestines, the Lactase enzyme splits lactose into glucose and galactose so that it can be absorbed by the intestinal wall. If there is too little of the Lactase enzyme present, as in lactose intolerance, lactose cannot be split, and therefore it cannot be sufficiently absorbed in the small intestine.
