Lactase 10,000 contains capsules with a high dosage (10,000 FCC) of the Lactase enzyme. Due to this high dosage, this product is particularly suitable for digesting large amounts of lactose from food and for those with lactose intolerance.* The capsules are easy to twist open, allowing the powder to be taken separately or mixed with water. Lactase 10,000 comes with a small user-friendly container and is suitable for children aged 2 and up.
Lactose (milk sugar)
Lactose is one of the FODMAPs; fermentable carbohydrates (sugars). Lactose, also known as “milk sugar,” is primarily found in milk and other dairy products such as cream, custard, quark, mascarpone, fresh (cream) cheese, biscuits and cakes. Additionally, lactose can also be present in processed meats, chips, sweets, soft drinks, breakfast cereals and certain medications and dietary supplements. Therefore, it is always important to read labels carefully. Lactose can be listed under various names, such as milk powder, whey, milk sugar and milk solids.
Digestion of lactose in the body
The digestive enzyme Lactase is responsible for the digestion of lactose. In the intestines, the Lactase enzyme splits lactose into glucose and galactose so that it can be absorbed by the intestinal wall. If there is too little of the Lactase enzyme present, as in lactose intolerance, lactose cannot be split, and therefore it cannot be sufficiently absorbed in the small intestine.
