Fibractase 1200 (Forte) contains 1200 units per capsule of the digestive enzyme Alpha Galactosidase. Alpha Galactosidase reduces the risk of gas formation during the digestion of complex carbohydrates, such as fructans and galactans.* The capsules are easy to twist open, allowing the powder to be taken separately or mixed with water. Fibractase 1200 is suitable for children aged 2 and up and comes in jar made of biobased plastic.
Complex carbohydrates (fructans and galactans)
Fructans and galactans are complex, hard-to-digest carbohydrates that belong to the FODMAPs, a group of fermentable carbohydrates. Fructans are found in grains, vegetables, and legumes, such as garlic, onions, leeks, wheat, apricots, grapefruit, nectarines, nuts, split peas and various grain products and pasta like crackers and noodles. Galactans are found in soy products, green peas, split peas, kidney beans and various types of nuts.
Digestion of complex carbohydrates in the body
Complex carbohydrates, such as fructans and galactans, cannot be digested in the small intestine. These indigestible carbohydrates move to the large intestine, where they are fermented by gut bacteria. The digestive enzyme Alpha Galactosidase helps with the digestion of these complex carbohydrates by breaking them down into smaller sugars in the small intestine. This makes them easier to digest and reduces the risk of gas formation.*
