Hard-to-digest carbohydrates and sugars (FODMAPs)
FODMAP is a collective term for various types of fermentable and therefore hard-to-digest carbohydrates (sugars). FODMAPs include carbohydrates such as (1) fructans and galactans, (2) fructose and (3) lactose. Although (4) sucrose is not officially classified as a FODMAP, it can also behave as a hard-to-digest carbohydrate. Digestive enzymes can help with the digestion of these carbohydrates.

Complex carbohydrates (fructans and galactans)
Fructans are found in grains, vegetables, and legumes, such as garlic, onions, leeks, wheat, apricots, grapefruit, nectarines, nuts, split peas and various grain products and pasta like crackers. Galactans are found in soy products, green peas, split peas, kidney beans and various types of nuts. The digestive enzyme Alpha Galactosidase helps in the digestion of complex carbohydrates (fructans and galactans) and reduces the risk of gas formation.*

Fructose (fruit sugar)
Fructose, also known as “fruit sugar,” is found in fruits, vegetables, honey and processed foods such as cherries, melon, apple, pear, dried fruit, asparagus, artichokes, fruit juices, apple syrup, jam, sauces, soft drinks, breakfast cereals and sweets. The digestive enzyme Xylose Isomerase helps with the digestion of fructose.

Lactose (milk sugar)
Lactose, also known as “milk sugar,” is found in milk and other dairy products such as cream, custard, quark, mascarpone, fresh (cream) cheese, biscuits, cakes and many other processed foods containing dairy. The digestive enzyme Lactase helps with the digestion of lactose in people who have difficulty digesting it.

Sucrose (table sugar)
Sucrose, also known as saccharose or table sugar, is found in fruits such as apples, bananas, mangoes, pears, oranges, watermelon and in processed foods where sugar has been added, like biscuits and sauces. The digestive enzyme Invertase helps with the digestion of sucrose.

Frequently asked questions

about Quatrase 10,000 (Forte)

Within Quatrase capsules, we have 2 different strengths available, Quatrase (5000) and Quatrase Forte (10,000). We recommend trying the highest strength first (Quatrase Forte 10,000). Later, you can scale down if necessary.

You can safely use our Quatrase (5000) and Quatrase Forte (10,000) capsules several times a day. We do recommend that you stick to the maximum number of capsules per day. For Quatrase (5000) and Quatrase Forte (10,000) this is a maximum of 15 capsules per day.

We recommend starting with 3 capsules before meals. This way, enough of the digestive enzymes enter the body. Should this amount be sufficient, you could try a lower dosage. How many capsules are sufficient can vary from person to person.
